Paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork. This is the main nuisance of practicing law. The amount of documentation which must be consulted by lawyers is doubled as they go about their cases. But if they incorporate a legal document management software method in the practice, they will dramatically reduce the time spent searching for the specific documents when they are needed. It can become more and more difficult to work in these conditions, without such a system.
A good law firm will have a library with volumes of legal history, law acts and old cases . Unless this library is organized effectively, a lot of time could be wasted by lawyers and assistants searching for the required material. A legal document management software system can help them save this time and use it for more important matters. Like all businesses, a law firm will waste money if it wastes time.
As well as this, all legal firms have their own in-house administration to deal with; bills, invoices, time sheets, cash flow, etc. These jobs all include documentation of some kind. Problems can occur if the law firm does not adequately manage these documents. Problems that this could cause could include non billing of clients and unpaid bills. A law firm would definitely rather not have problems like these.
Computers have reduced the amount of paper that is used these days as hard copies can be scanned and stored on a hard disk. The need for physical handling of documents is reduced by scanning them. It is more practical to have documents scanned as this allows many staff members to access documents at once.
A legal document management software system should be placed on the central server with access for each workstation controlled from there . This would dramatically reduce the amount of time spent searching for documents.
In the long run, placing legal document management software in their firm’s system, would mean that lawyers and their secretaries could have easy access to all the documentation that previously took hours to locate.
